As part of Lower One’s Victorian History lessons, they visited the Ragged Old School Museum, where they had the opportunity to experience what life was like for the poor in London during the time The Ragged Old School opened. During Mrs. Poole’s lesson, the children learned about some of the punishments used back then, such as the finger stocks and the back straightener. They also explored different arithmetic methods, the value of money, and recited various poems and phrases. In the afternoon, they participated in a ‘Victorian home life’ session, where they learned how poorer families lived. The children examined everyday items like an iron, a mangle, a washer, a hot water bottle, a dolly (a Victorian washing device), and many more. They had a fantastic time and truly enjoyed experiencing Victorian life first-hand. A big thank you to Josh, Mrs. Poole, and Christine for such a wonderful day!
